FirstCommunity Senior Select

How does Original Medicare work and why is it important to have a Medicare supplement?
As most seniors know, Original Medicare is the federal government healthcare plan which  serves seniors age 65 and over. But Medicare only covers 80% of eligible medical expenses. That leaves a costly gap in your coverage. A supplement like FirstCommunity Senior Select, fills the gap, covering the other 20% of eligible medical services.

Supplements are the best way to prevent spending thousands of dollars out of pocket on eligible expenses that Medicare doesn’t cover.

Does First Community Senior Select Medicare Supplement cover nursing home care?
Medicare only covers the first 20 days in a Medicare-approved skilled nursing facility.

From day 21 through day 100, without a supplement, seniors have to pay  $119 a day out of their pockets. But with FirstCommunity’s Plan C, we cover the $119 per day.

Can you choose your own doctor with FirstCommunity?
Yes, you can. FirstCommunity encourages you to choose a physician in the area who admits patients to one of our participating hospitals.

How much can FirstCommunity Senior Select save you?
Traditional Medicare supplement costs can range from $85 to more than $200 a month. FirstCommunity Senior Select could save you as much as 50% a month.

And because FirstCommunity Health Plan is the only health plan developed by doctors and hospitals right here in North Alabama, you can be confident that you won't have to sacrifice the kind of high-quality health care you've come to expect.

Is FirstCommunity guaranteed renewable every year?
Yes. You don’t have to worry about not  having coverage from year to year.

What choices do seniors have when it comes to choosing a Part D Prescription drug plan?
Seniors really have two options:

a. First, you can keep your Original Medicare and add a Medicare supplement if you don’t already have one. Then choose a separate Prescription Drug Plan. That’s one option.

b. Second, you can give up your Original Medicare for an Advantage Plan.

Do you have to give up your Original Medicare in order to get RX coverage?
No. You do not have to give up your Original Medicare unless you choose one of the all inclusive plans commonly referred to as Advantage Plans.

How do the Advantage Plans work?
On the surface Advantage Plans seem simple, but they can be very complicated. Seniors must first give up their Original Medicare and then rely on a private insurance company to manage their health care. That means the private insurance company will decide which services you are eligible for and whether they will pay for those services.

Do they require a lot of co-pays?
Yes, seniors will face multiple co-pays for physicians, specialists, hospitals, diagnostic services, outpatient services, an ambulance, the ER or skilled nursing. It could be hundreds or even thousands of dollars out of their pocket per illness or accident.

Is that how they offer such low or even NO premiums?
Exactly. It’s only free if you don’t use it.

Are Advantage Plans guaranteed renewable each year?
Advantage Plans are not guaranteed renewable from year to year.

What else should seniors know about Advantage Plans?
Be sure to ask about their summary of benefits to see exactly what is and isn’t covered. Especially ask for a detailed list of all the co-pays you might face.
